Announces Student Grant Awards

Funding supports ideas developed and championed by local high school students

SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The San Luis Coastal Education Foundation announced today the award of $5,000 in grants to fund student-led efforts to help make their local high schools an even more rewarding place to be and learn. Open to any high school student within San Luis Coastal Unified School District, this year’s “Fund-4-Students” offered awards up-to $1,000 to help students make their ideas a reality.  This year’s student grant recipients are: 

$1,000 -- Tate Isaacs, 10th grade at San Luis Obispo High School
Prize money for a student designed entrepreneurship competition where students could apply what they’ve learned in classes to address real world problems. 

$1,000 -- Bodhi Clancy, 12th grade at San Luis Obispo High School
Purchase silk screening supplies and machinery so students can design and print their own branded clothing. 

$1,000 -- Jada Ramos, 12th grade at Pacific Beach High School
Provide student designed ‘swag’ to students who make the honor roll. 

$750 -- Alex Bolster-White, 10th grade at San Luis Obispo High School
Rally high school students to help expand the PEAK (Parents Encouraging Active Kids) program at local elementary schools to improve kids’ access to extracurricular activities. 

$771 -- Meili Laiho, 11th grade at San Luis Obispo High School
Sponsor a team of eight students to compete in the TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) competition in Palo Alto. This group of students will explore opportunities to replicate this competition locally to expand access for local students.

$500 -- Nina Ramezani, 10th grade at San Luis Obispo High School
Build a program of guest speakers to mentor students on a variety of topics, including career pathways, journey to adulthood, life skills, etc.
